I'm new to this forum and haven't read all the strands, but of the few that I've read I feel as though a couple of possilbe interpretations weren't talked about.

I think there are two very poignant statements the director is making. The first is a topical one, which is reality (that everyone experiences) can consume our senses and suck us into their drama.

I really think he makes that point when he says in the film that the dumb people won't understand the film. As well as Ryan's characters thinking they are the victim of their experiences instead of the creator. Maybe he's saying that if you are unaware of the fact that you choose your path in life then you ar at it's whim to follow it. Which leads me to the second interpretation.

Maybe the numbering system is not a specific classification for how a being is ranked in ability, intelligence and power, but a level of awareness. For example Ryan's character develops his "Dietiness" when he is reminded of who he is. When his awareness is broadened then so is his creativity and understanding.

For chris: how's it going buddy, I hope I understand what the quotes mean. That you know that the explanation of the film is a lot simpler than you think it is. But I see that isn't the case since you keep talking about the chimps and what the numbers mean. Next time you see it try not to think about those elements. They are only there to get you to concentrate on one piece of the puzzle at a time. When you see the film a second time only concentrate on how the characters "evolve" and "grow" Maybe then you'll see the big picture. I understand it by realizing how wrong you are and for that I am grateful. I do truly apologize if I have gotten the wrong idea but I don't think I have. I truly feel like the koala minus the telepathic powers.

If you still feel confused and cant see the obvious feel free to start a new thread.

"S" gives enough reason for such an ending in stating that "G" had not always had such an active roll in the Creation. He had made it, and he'd check in on it every once in a while, but then got caught up in the "game". So, his leaving didn't necessarily have to lead to its destruction.

My own interpretation of the film is a bit off topic from this post (since I have no complaints), so I'll just elaborate on it, elsewhere.

Reading the topics in the forum seems to me that everyone believes that the film is close to perfect and that there is someway to figure it all out. I enjoyed the film and thought it was as mindblowing and original as Inland Empire. All the credit is due to John August. I just want to know things that people didn't like about the film not what they didn't understand.

Seeing the movie come together at the end seemed perfect in the theater but the more I think about it the more i believe the last five minutes are needless. It seems like an extended ending with a CGI sequence and a happy resolution that would have a better home on the dvd. Ryan reynolds character has just been told he has the power to wipe out an entire alternate earth. We are given a very well directed and performed exchange between melissa and ryans character about what it would mean to do this. I'm not sure if the CGI sequence came before or after this exchange but that has to be the most expensive shot in the entire film and doesn't belong in one with this much independent spirit. We are given the outcome of his choice and left with a resolution where one is not necessary. Would anyone else have liked to leave the theater not knowing his choice? I know that this is august's final vision but it seems the movie would have been much more personal and memorable had it been left open ended. John August handles those last five minutes beautifully and does get his message across but seems to contradict everything we have seen before. In a film based off of uncertainty, and suspense filled with numerous ideas throughout we are given an ending in a nice neatly wrapped package and no room for interpretation.

please just tell me im wrong give me some reason for the uplifting ending so when i do watch this movie i dont keep seeing that needless epilogue. I thinks its one of the best films of the year just dont know why he would end it like this.
