Thank you for the answer. By the way, just thought it would be funny to mention: my husband is actually a video game designer, and I'm also an editor.

Margaret is/was aware that he'd created this and other worlds -- and that there were other beings like him, who could at some point come for him. We're never told all the details, but some of this relationship backstory is filled in by "God," the short film which created the Margaret character. That's going to be on the DVD as a bonus feature.

Garou --

1. You say "control," I say "protect." Margaret, a 7, knows what a potentially Bad Thing it is if the creator of the universe leaves. So she wants to make sure he's not pulled away by Sarah.

2. Gary's initial bender is really just a bender. The actress he broke up with isn't Dahlia. You can see on the bus board that it's his co-star from his TV show. But it's a nice theory, and I can see how you ended up there.

3. When I was shooting my first TV show, D.C., there was a lot of talk about doing a Project Greenlight behind-the-scenes. We nixed it, though it would have been much better than the show we made.

In terms of videogames, I've had the pleasure of working with both Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia) and American McGee (Alice), and seeing how their lives and workloads function.

John, thank you for clarifying the situation. I also enjoyed the movie and thought it was refreshing to see something with such an original concept that actually makes you think. One question I had: when the publicist character was trying to explain the true situation to Ryan Reynold's character, she made a comment that they had know each other for about 25 years, and she also said (if I am remembering correctly) that one day he had called her up, and they had been talking since then. Does this mean that she was simply aware of each version of the world that Ryan's character had created, and her role in it, or did it mean something different. Thanks.

John:

Thank you for addressing the issue. Please understand that the patrons that usually go to the Alamo line of theatres are quite passionate about getting out there and attending movies--including first-run and speciality showings.

Here are my questions:

1. Part One seems to involve the M character doing everything in her power to control the G character. The house arrest... the bracelet... was this attempt by a 7 to control a 9 that had been throw off balance?

2. The story never really comes back to address what caused the break down and bender by the G character at the beginning of the movie. We assume it is because of a break up. Was this intended to be a break-up with another incarnation of the Dahlia character? He was upset because she ended up with another man / director in Part Two, so I was wondering if we were meant to infer that she was the cause in the Intro.

3. Out of curiosity, did you consult with anyone in reality TV or the gaming industry while doing research?

Thanks for your answers!

I don't know where the miscommunication started, but let me explain and apologize.

Ryan and I introduced the 7 p.m. show, did a bunch of TV interviews, ate dinner, then came back to do a Q&A. We stayed at the theater to introduce the 10 p.m. show and the winning trailers, then headed out. I was asleep by 10:45. (We flew in at 7 a.m.)

In all our promotions here, we only said we'd be intoducing the movie for the 10 p.m. show. (That's also what we did in Los Angeles.) I'm sorry The Alamo said there would be a Q&A afterwards -- we didn't know that had been promised, and they didn't say anything to that effect when we left. That might have been the deal they made with the distributor, but if so, that never got communicated to us.

So, again: sorry. We fought for Austin as our third city, and came out to support it, specifically because we wanted to get it in front of an audience that appreciates challenging movies.

The purpose of this forum is to ask (and answer) any questions, so if there was something you wanted to ask me Friday night, know that I'm happy to answer it Sunday afternoon.

I was at the 10 pm showing at Alamo South Lamar, and really enjoyed the movie. The movie was thought provoking, well acted, and well executed.

As for the disappointment--it is interesting, as I believe John August said he would "see us later" or something to that effect after talking about picking Austin for an opening and introducing the trailers. The word from the Alamo employee was that he was riding with Ryan Reynolds, and apparently Reynolds wanted to leave (must to August's dismay). Further, it was not explained to us that they had left--after giving a brief introduction--until pretty much the entire audience waited in our seats for about 10 minutes awaiting their return.

I had some questions for the director about his intentions and some of the themes he used during the movie that went unanswered. It was a let down all the way around, as those of us who purchased premiumly-priced tickets had a certain expectation entering that theatre.

I think an apology or refund is due.

Yeah, I was at the 10 pm showing as well. I bought tickets as soon as I heard about the event, (which was advertised by the Alamo as a Q and A with John and Ryan at both the 7 and 10 pm showing) and waited in line for almost an hour to see the movie and the Q and A, only to be told by an Alamo employee that Ryan didn't feel like coming back for the Q and A. If you're going to blow somebody off, maybe it shouldn't be the people who support you and pay to see your movies.

I really liked the movie. Enjoyed it very much, the only major disappointment was when we didn't get to ask questions or talk with John and Ryan.

I do have some questions about the door knob plates and why was it put in. Also have some more questions as well, really wish we could of talked with them. Oh well, maybe it can be made up in the future.
