I have yet to screen the movie a second time with the audio commentary, so perhaps this question is answered in there, but I was curious about the significance of the green bracelet?

I took it to be like a reminder. Like tying a string around your finger so you dont' forget something.

Memory or promise bracelet is what I took it to be. Thinking back made more interesting by him creating it and putting it on against a field of pure white.

i took it to be the three lives, three pieces of twin with him at the center... he was plugged in ....

to me it was the way he stayed in the human world. he was wearing it in all his lives and as soon as he took it off he left that world and stopped playing characters

I was reminded of the fates in Greek mythology. After doing some research, I found out that the fate who spun the thread, Clotho, had a Roman equivalent--Nona, which means ninth. The fate Atropa/Morta carried shears, which may be what the scissors were alluding to. I suppose the knot-tying could represent the other fate, Lachesis/Decima, since she was the one who measured the thread. However Lachesis/Decima and Atropa/Morta represented the numbers 10 and 11 respectively. Since the movie dealt with creation and escapism into a generated world, I suppose Clotho/Nona--"nine" became the focus of the movie. Just a hypothesis :)

If you look at the opening titles carefully, you can see that each of the threads is really three threads, so there are nine things woven in.
Also, if you look at the photos online, you can see how they shot the string thing. It was really simple.

I wear a green bracelet now. Thanks for the tip about the nine threads sevven, I will braid 3 strands and combine them to make nine. I love the significance of it, helps me to feel grounded!
