Maybe I'm dumb, but what is that about? Is it a religious thing? My brother had something like that when he got back from Brazil, but I don't think the movie has anything to do with Brazil.

i think it's some kind of key to another world. in the trailer he yanks it and sends a shock wave through the world. reminds me of the fates...measuring, cutting and weaving. maybe breaking it is like breaking the path laid out for you.

It seems to connect all the 3 characters, in the trailer of the film there is a section when they are all sitting in the car together so i started thinking of parallel universes, i never thought of it like a key i always thought of it destroying whatever universe/dimension they are in (i've seen donnie darko a bit too many times)

either that or they're all the same person just playing different parts. the string allows them to play in the game. but i guess if he's the only one wearing it then no one else is in the game?

Maybe it's like one of those Kabbalah bracelets that is supposed to ward off evil thoughts or whatever. I guess we'll have to wait to see the movie.

I'm more of a poet-type, but I had to take a few science classes in college and I kinda remembered hearing something about "string theory", so this post made me think of that. I didn't know what it was, though, so I just checked on Wikipedia to see if it might have anything to do with that:

I didn't really understand most of it, but there was something in one of the headers there about "extra" dimensions. Maybe it has something to do with why the different actors are playing different roles? Are they maybe different dimensions of the same person? Or they exist in different times and places? As I said, I don't really understand all the scientific stuff they say on that page about string theory, but maybe it's somehow part of it. Hopefully the movie will help explain it!

I think it's a reminder, like tying a string around your finger. At one point in the movie, a character says, "you forgot who you are."
