performances writing structure execution Perfection byut is anyone questining John august's decision to continue the movie after the resolution in the woods with the expensive CGI sequence that looks like it cost more than some of the crew's salaries and the happy ending where it shows the outcome of his choice that somehow resolves everything leaving no what if's and no interpretations. its almost as if he comprimised some part of his vision trying to say something in the last five minutes about the power of god that doesnt seem to fit with the rest of the movie. it scares me to think in a movie as independent as this he might used a hollywood cliche as ending. Someone help me out and tell me i'm wrong

Wow. I was actually underwhelmed by the CGI sequence, and would be surprised if it was expensive. Not that I'm complaining about it; Hollywood has proven overmuch in the past two dozen years that expensive gloss doesn't necessarily make something good.
I failed to see compromise in any part of this film...though knowing how the machine works, I'm sure there was some. I was even pleasantly surprised by Mr. Reynolds, who showed great talent in performing a character outside of his normally type-cast snidely sarcastic wit.
I was tempted to simply type a response of "You're wrong". Careful what you ask for. ;-)
I'm interested in people's issue with a seemingly happy ending. What is so wrong with our psyches that we can't accept them?

The CGI sequence?? I'm guessing you guys are referring to the part where some colored diamonds appear and descend towards a point of light - Kinda looked like a screen saver setting on a computer??
With all the brilliant CGI work in films nowadays, I was baffled and confused by this. Regardless of money, or anything else - don't think it accomplished what was intended. All it did for me, was pull me out of the movie.
So, I agree with first post - in so much that the "CGI Sequence" wasn't successful.

Thank you Jeff, you have said exactly what I failed to about the cgi sequence,it took me so far away from the scene in the woods that the stark contrast made me think that it was a lot greater in detail. I now realize that this was not the case and it served its purpose saying that sometimes we need to give in to teh world, the universe around us to get to a state of true happiness not a false. No matter how scared we are to make teh sacrifices we need to. thank you for responding to the actual part and voicing your own opinion.
